Making quantum science accessible through animation.

Quantum physics isn't exactly the easiest subject to explain to a young audience. Working with Trinity College Dublin and AMBER, Conker Cuts developed and produced Quantum Quest, an educational animated short designed to make complex scientific concepts more approachable through character, story and visual imagination.

The 2D animated film follows a young protagonist on a fantastical journey into the quantum world, using narrative storytelling to introduce ideas that can otherwise feel abstract or inaccessible. Rather than simply illustrating a scientific lecture, we built the animation around the idea that story can be a tool for learning. Characters, environments and visual metaphors allow difficult concepts to be experienced rather than simply explained.

From science to story

The project began with educational objectives and scientific material that needed to remain accurate while still working as an engaging piece of animation. Our team worked across development, production, animation and post-production to translate this material into a short-form narrative. The result was a bespoke 2D animated proof of concept.

The finished film was produced in English, Irish, Portuguese, Hindi and Gujarati, allowing the project to reach audiences across different linguistic and cultural contexts. For the Irish version, we worked with professional Irish translator Gary Moloney to develop terminology for quantum concepts that had not previously been translated into Irish.
